Defining a Top Fuel Dragster
A top fuel dragster is the quickest machine on land! If can go from 0 to 330 miles per hour in just over 4 seconds! They are absolutely breathtaking to see them in action at a drag racing event. These vehicles use nitro methane for fuel and watching them stage for the event is just as much fun as seeing them fly down the track. When they are staging you can see the heat from the back end as the fuel is being burned.
Due the extreme speed of a top fuel dragster safety requirements are very strict. The driver is strapped into a harness and they wear a fire protective suit and a helmet. The vehicle has a parachute that comes out at the end of the race to help them slow down. The drag racing strip also offers sand pits at the end of the track for any vehicle that hasn’t slowed down enough.
For many fans, watching the top fuel dragster vehicles at any event is the highlight of the day. The drivers accumulate points each season for how they place at the various events. Tracking results and finding out who is on top can be done from the NHRA website.
