Defining Pro Stock
Pro Stock racing in the NHRA is fun and unique and such a challenge. But it-s a fun way to race cars because you have to have a factory hot rod and you cannot use turbo charging, nitrous oxide and some other things. Its also very difficult because you have to the same make of engine as the car. You can also do Pro Stock motorcycle racing which is dangerous and so very fun. These cars are powered by a small block 400 cubic inch V8 engine. Most cars are also 5 speed manual transmissions or stick shift as most people know them by. A lot of race car drivers will tell you that Pro Stock is the most competitive class in motor sports today. Most races are decided by thousandths of a second.
Just a little history for those just getting into the NHRA or also known as the National Hot Rod Association. NHRA began back in 1951 by a guy known as Wally Parks. He found this association because he wanted to create a safer environment for those people that were into street racing. The NHRA is all about diversity because it features more than 20 types of categories. In 2011 NHRA is celebrating its 60 year anniversary. Because of its founding it turned tuning a car into a hobby other than just a necessity.
The NHRA Pro Stock racing is a great sport for young adults, kids, and teens to get into. It takes them off the streets and teaches them very different aspects of cars. Shows them how to spec a car to make it go fast. And you can race till you die because there very little demand on your body compared to other sports. You can basically turn any car into a Pro Stock car as long as you follow the many different rules and regulations that come with this sport. So people of many ages turn on your televisions, computers and learn about the NHRA and if you-re a car enthusiast then this sports for you.
